FARE SHARE FRIDAY
In a city of over 60,000 homeless people—many living on the street—there's only one thing they hunger for as much as a hot breakfast or dinner. They crave the social interaction of another human being.
Without jobs, family and friends, these homeless New Yorkers are often cut off from any kind of community. A simple conversation is harder to find than a cup of soup or piece of bread.
So we decided to change all that with Fare Share Friday. A special event sponsored by Crossroads Community, a local soup kitchen, was held the Friday after Thanksgiving sitting the homeless side-by-side with those who support them to share a dinner.
The logo for the event made up of food reflects the dinner with a variety of spoons representing the diversity of people coming together. Even the words, :Fare Share Friday, animate on the surface in flour. After all, everyone in the community should have their fare share.
